I’m Pregnant, now what should I focus on?

Dr. Nicole McCauley

Chiropractic care is the health maintenance of the spinal column, discs, related nerves and bone geometry without drugs or surgery. It involves the art and science of adjusting misaligned joints of the body, especially of the spine, which reduces spinal nerve stress and therefore promotes health throughout the body. The nervous system is the master communication system to all the body systems including the reproductive system. Keeping the spine aligned helps the entire body work more effectively.

Ultimately, chiropractic care is a far less invasive form of alternative medicine that may save you time, money and stress. Now, when it comes to mixing chiropractic care and pregnancy, it is important that you find a practitioner you can trust and one that will work to find a solution not a temporary fix. At Breath of Life, we have the only Pediatric Chiropractic Diplomate (this means she is a Board Certified specialist) within 250 miles of Springfield, Missouri.

  1. Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
It’s completely safe! The American Pregnancy Association states there are no known contraindications to chiropractic care throughout pregnancy. If you have any concerns, always check with your provider.
  2. Do I really need this?
There are many benefits! Chiropractic care during pregnancy helps maintain a healthier pregnancy, controls symptoms of nausea, relieves back, neck and joint pain, reduces the time of labor and delivery, improves immunity, and may help prevent cesarean deliveries. Healthier pregnancies lead to healthier babies.
  3. What will this improve?
Chiropractic care during pregnancy balances and aligns your pelvis. When the pelvis is misaligned, it may reduce the amount of room for the baby to develop leading to intrauterine restraint. A misaligned pelvis may also make it more difficult for your baby to get into the best possible position for delivery.
  4. I am not sure what I need from a chiropractor, where do I start?
At Breath of Life, your appointments are completely tailored to you. Dr. McCauley takes the time to address any questions you may have about your pregnancy and baby.
  5. Who is Dr. McCauley within the field?
There are chiropractors who have advanced training in working with pregnant women. All chiropractors are trained to work with pregnant women but there are some who seek additional training. Dr. McCauley has her Diplomate with the ICPA, reflecting the highest level of advanced training a chiropractor can receive in pregnancy care. Dr. McCauley is also Webster Certified (trained to work specifically with pelvic balance during pregnancy) and a Spinning Babies Aware Practitioner.
